Korean address in English
Paste a Korean address in Hangul. You'll get it in English order and spelling, ready for an overseas order form, a visa application or a parcel.
Building and apartment names are spelled out letter by letter. If the building has its own English name (for example on its website), use that instead. Notes in brackets, such as (역삼동), are left out.
How to use
- Copy your Korean address (for example from a delivery app, your lease or 정부24) and paste it into the box.
- Check the English address that appears. It is written from the smallest unit to the biggest, like a Western address.
- Tap Copy and paste it into the form. If the building has an official English name, replace the spelled-out name with it.
How Korean addresses are written in English
Korean addresses go from the biggest area to the smallest. In English the order is reversed, from the smallest to the biggest, just like a Western address.
| Korean order | English order |
|---|---|
| 서울특별시 관악구 신림로23길 16, 101동 202호 | 202-ho, 101-dong, 16 Sillim-ro 23-gil, Gwanak-gu, Seoul |
| Province/City → District → Road → Building number → Unit | Unit → Building number + Road → District → City/Province |

Road-name vs. lot-number addresses
Since 2014 Korea's official addresses use road names (도로명주소), such as Sejong-daero 209. You will still see the older lot-number style (지번주소), such as Yeoksam-dong 737, on old documents and in everyday speech. This tool handles both, but the road-name address is the one to use on forms.
Tips for online shopping and forms
- Address line 1: building number and road, e.g. “16 Sillim-ro 23-gil”.
- Address line 2: apartment and unit, e.g. “101-dong 202-ho”.
- City: the district and city, e.g. “Gwanak-gu, Seoul”. State/Province: the province or metropolitan city.
- Delivery inside Korea: couriers work best with the Korean address. Give the English one only when a site doesn't accept Hangul.
Romanization follows the Revised Romanization of Korean, with hyphens before address units as in the official English addresses. Some well-known names keep traditional spellings (for example Teheran-ro).
Frequently asked questions
Do I write "dong" and "ho" in English?
Yes. 101동 202호 can be written "101-dong, 202-ho" or "Bldg 101, #202". Both are understood.
Should I use the road-name or lot-number address?
Use the road-name address (도로명주소), such as Sejong-daero 209. It is the official system since 2014.
Will a parcel from abroad arrive with this address?
Usually yes, especially with the 5-digit postal code. Couriers inside Korea work best with the Korean address, so add it too if the form allows.
Where can I find the official English address?
Search your address on juso.go.kr (Korea Address Information), which shows the official English version.
